Alright. We know. So let’s just watch and laugh. Thanks for all the “have you seen the video?” talk. We have and we are teaching Jack to re-enact it. We’ll let you know how it goes.

Or if you are into the remix

Everyone seems to ask how the siblings are adjusting to Charlie. Here is a video of their first encounter.

Here’s the story: Early Sunday morning we thought my water had broken so as all good rule-followers, we started getting ready to go to the hospital. We packed, tidied up one last time, and arranged care for our other two munchkins (Thanks Matt Jackson and Aunt Elisha!). We headed down to Kaiser in Panorama City a little after 7am. Thankfully, we weren’t feeling in a huge hurry because it took us quite some time to get to the right place due to traffic and getting lost in the wrong Kaiser building. (We had planned to go on the hospital tour on Monday night! Oops!)

We should have LOOKED at the map

We checked in and, sadly, a few hours later . . . we checked out! We learned that Kaiser’s qualifications for being admitted to the hospital to have a baby are much different from Henry Mayo where our other two were born. So . . . even though there were some signs of early labor, they kicked us out! We weren’t too thrilled, but we had no choice. The midwife said it could be a few hours OR up to ten days!!! O brother!

Ready for Baby!

Our first run 8:35 a.m. on Sunday.

Humbled and yet determined not to waste the fact that Gramma G. was already almost down here from the Bay Area, we opted NOT to rest the day away but to keep moving in an effort to get things moving! The trip to Trader Joes seemed to do the trick. By dinnertime contractions were pretty strong and pretty consistent. However, we were NOT about to go to the hospital just to be sent home again so we decided to wait as long as possible before getting back in the car. It was probably a little bit of a pride thing. When contractions were about 5 to 7 minutes apart and Mommy thought the world was going to end with each one, we got on the road for the second time! It was about 10:15pm by then.

This time we're having this baby!

This time we DID qualify for Kaiser to let us have a baby. So we got all settled in. Mommy got her blessed epidural then we both settled in to get a little rest before it was “time.” Daddy slept soundly for several hours on the comfy delivery room couch. Mommy, however, laid there in the dark room wondering why this epidural felt a little different from the other two. She couldn’t feel any contractions so that was WONDERFUL. However, she could feel her toes, which she thought was a little weird. But she’s not the type to complain or speak up in these situations so she assumed it would all be fine. BIG MISTAKE!! At 3:30 a.m. or so, the reality that her epidural had NOT worked was pretty apparent so she called in the nurse. Sadly, she had waited too long to speak up. They rushed in the midwife who announced that we could call over the epidural guy but by then we would have a baby in our arms. Literally, within five or MAYBE ten minutes we called the nurse who called the midwife, woke up Daddy from his peaceful sleep, came to the brutal realization that this baby was going to be born “Hippie Style” as Uncle Dave calls it, and then pushed twice to have a baby in our arms. It was a very dramatic few minutes. In fact, poor Daddy was put on “time out” because the sight of Mommy’s reaction to doing this version of baby delivery was a little much for him to handle. The midwife interrupted her orders for Mommy to “push” with orders for Daddy to “sit down” and for the nurses to “get him juice and ice.”

Anyways, God is good. Baby Boy Millett joined us at 3:54 am, weighing 8lbs. 12 oz. and stretching to 20 inches. His blood sugar was low so we had to take care of that right away. He was soon all sugared up and ready to move to the postpartum room for a few days of quiet rest before entering the crazy Millett household.

Mommy and Daddy were still deciding what the boy’s name was going to be. It was between Charlie and Zeke. Why Charlie? Several reasons: First and most importantly . . . Charlie was chosen in honor of his Papa Tim . . . also known as Timothy Charles!! We love and admire Papa Tim for so many reasons . . . more than we could list here! Some of the obvious ones have to do with his selfless love for people (including family, friends, and strangers in the grocery store!) and his devoted love for Jesus Christ and the truth of the Bible. Papa Tim is an extraordinary example of a godly man, and we will pray that our Charlie will see that in his Papa Tim and seek to imitate those qualities. Secondly, we liked Charlie because it means “strong and manly.” In our “Peter Pan” culture of men that don’t know how to be men, we pray that Charlie will have the courage to be the strong, risk-taking, hard-working MAN that God wants him to be. Lastly, we liked Charlie because it fits our funny Millett requirements of being simple, old-fashioned, cute for a baby, and perfect for a grandpa. So there you have it. (Please note that LOST was NOT mentioned in the list of Millett name criteria!!) When we decided that this guy was going to be our Charlie and the “next boy” would be our Zeke, we then went back and forth about his middle name. Daddy wanted it to be a “J” name in case he ever wants to go by C.J. So thankfully, that narrowed things down. We got it down to James or Jedidiah. In keeping with our “keep it simple” naming habits, we finally decided that Charlie James was the perfect name for our boy. We knew Jack would be happy since he’d been calling him “Chadie Dames” for the last month.

So, you can’t imagine how many “You’re crazy!” looks and comments we get when people hear or see that we have three kids 3 years old and younger. We probably are. But God says that children are a BLESSING from the Lord . . . not a TRIAL or BURDEN from the Lord! So though there will be crazy moments . . . lots of them . . . we are so thankful for our newest little blessing! Charlie James is as cute as a button and we pray that we will be faithful to love him and train him under Christ’s example. God is so good to us!!!

Charlie James
